It happened on Saturday, May 27 around 7:20 p.m., Allentown police wrote in a release. Officers were called to 8th and Linden streets after residents reported shots fired, the department said.
They arrived to find "evidence of shots being fired" and gathered a suspect description, authorities said. A suspect was located about a block away after police swept the neighborhood, according to the release.
As police approached him, officers said they saw "a handgun ... sticking out of his sweatshirt pocket." The man was arrested following a "brief struggle," authorities said.
Thomas Perez, 38, of North 8th Street, was charged with firearm possession, unlicensed carry, and discharging a gun into an occupied structure, police said.
Bail was set at $75,000 and Perez is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing on June 5, according to court records.
